The Department was established in the year 2000 as The Department of Sanskrit and later in 2010 it was renamed as Department of Sanskrit Language & Literature. This Department is engaged in teaching and research pertaining to Sanskrit Language and Literature. The Department participates in various research activities under the University with Potential for Excellence. It has well-experienced teaching faculty who undertakes research activities in their respective field of research as well as popularizes Sanskrit amongst masses through various program like Kalidas Din, Sanskrit Din, Natyotsav, Simple Sanskrit Speaking Classes.

Vision : “ पुराणमित्येव न साधु सर्वं न चापि काव्यं नवमित्यवद्यम् ”

The Department of Sanskrit Language & Literature is working with the vision of preservation and enrichment of Sanskrit language and literature by virtue of deep studies and research of the both Classical & Modern Sanskrit Literature.

The vision represents the very insight and wisdom of the great poet Mahakavi Kalidas who states that “ Puranamityev na Sadhu Sarva Na chapi Kavyam Navamityavadyam”

Mission : “चरैवेति चरैवेति”

The Department believes in consistence pursuance of its vision. The Department embodies a mission to encourage the usage of Sanskrit language and researches on the various fields of its literature and to welcome the comparative studies on the social and scientific thoughts of different Sanskrit texts. This mission is far intended to focus on the views preserved in the Classic & Modern Sanskrit Literature regarding the socio-religious life, philosophical exposition for the enrichment of the social values. Our mission is to encourage and follow three aspects – Literature Creation, Studies & Translation Studies along with Saral Manak Sanskrit.

Objectives :

  • To impart the knowledge of traditional text, thought, teaching and research.
  • To undertake various research projects on Contemporary Sanskrit Literature.
  • To edit and publish unpublished Sanskrit text and Manuscripts.
  • To welcome the comparative studies of Classical & Modern Sanskrit Literature.
  • To conduct international and national seminars on various aspects of Classical& Modern Sanskrit Literature.

Department has started the Language Consultancy centre “Bhasha Paramarsha Kendra” at Nagpur Campus. Services are offered in Sanskrit Composition, Translation work, Proof Reading, Drafting Job (Verses, Invitations etc.), Magazine work & Pronunciation skills and Preliminary exams. Alos Department offers services related to other languages also.
